# Turn on two-factor authentication

Updated 2026-10-12 by the TicketPa team. Source: https://ticketpa.com/help/two-factor-authentication

Two-factor authentication (2FA) asks for a 6-digit code from an authenticator app on your phone each time you log in, after your password. Someone who learns your password still can't get in without your phone.

## Before you start

- Install an authenticator app on your phone, like Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator. Any app that makes time-based codes works.
- **Security** settings ask you to confirm your password first. If you signed up with Google and have no password yet, TicketPa asks you to create one. See [Sign in with Google](https://ticketpa.com/help/sign-in-with-google).

## Steps to turn on 2FA

1. Select your initials at the top right of the dashboard, then **Settings**.
2. Select **Security**, and confirm your password if TicketPa asks.
3. Under **Two-factor authentication**, select **Enable 2FA**.
4. Scan the QR code with your authenticator app. If you can't scan it, enter the setup key shown under "or, enter the code manually" in the app instead. Select **Continue**.
5. Enter the 6-digit code the app shows and select **Confirm**.

If you close the window before you confirm, select **Continue setup** to go back to it. If you leave the page, setup starts over with **Enable 2FA**.

## Keep your recovery codes

Once 2FA is on, the **2FA recovery codes** box appears. Select **View recovery codes** to see your 8 codes, and save them somewhere safe, like a password manager. Each code works once, in place of a code from your phone. A code you use is swapped for a new one, so check the box again for your current codes after using one.

To get a fresh set, select **Regenerate codes** while the codes are showing. The old codes stop working.

## Log in with 2FA

1. Log in with your email and password, or with **Continue with Google**.
2. Enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator app and select **Continue**.

If you don't have your phone, select **login using a recovery code** under the button, enter one of your recovery codes and select **Continue**. See [Log in and reset your password](https://ticketpa.com/help/log-in-and-reset-password) for the rest of logging in.

> **Note:** Without your phone or a recovery code, you can't finish logging in. If you've lost both, email our support team.

## Turn off 2FA

Go to **Settings**, then **Security**, and select **Disable 2FA**. It turns off straight away, and logging in no longer asks for a code.
