# Online payment fees explained

Updated 2026-10-15 by the TicketPa team. Source: https://ticketpa.com/help/online-payment-fees

When a guest pays online, TicketPa keeps a small share of the payment and Stripe charges its own card fee. You pay TicketPa's fee, or you pass it on to guests as a booking fee. Money you take on the day carries no TicketPa fee.

## TicketPa's fee per plan

| Plan | TicketPa's fee on each online payment |
| ------------ | ------------------------------------- |
| **Basic** | 2% |
| **Standard** | 1% |
| **Pro** | 0.5% |

New businesses get **Standard** free for their first 30 days. Some businesses have a fee agreed with TicketPa instead of their plan's.

To see your fee, go to **Payments** in the sidebar. Under **How guests pay**, a line says what share TicketPa keeps of each online payment, and whether it comes from your plan or is your agreed fee.

To see your plan or move to another, go to **Plan** in the sidebar. See [Your plan and what it includes](https://ticketpa.com/help/plans-and-limits).

## How the fee is taken

- The fee is taken from each online payment as it is made, and the rest goes to your Stripe account.
- It is worked out on the amount paid and rounded down to the smallest unit of the currency. For example, on a 45.50 payment on **Standard**, TicketPa keeps 0.45.
- It applies to every online payment, on your booking page and through payment links.
- When you refund an online payment, in full or in part, TicketPa gives back its fee on the refunded part.

## Pass the fee on to guests

On every plan, you choose who pays TicketPa's fee: you, which is where every business starts, or guests who pay online, as a booking fee on top of your price.

1. Go to **Payments** in the sidebar.
2. Under **Who pays TicketPa's 1% fee?**, with your plan's fee, choose **You do** or **Your guests, as a booking fee**.
3. Select **Save**.

When guests pay it:

- The booking box on your booking page says "A 1% booking fee is added when you pay online" from the start, with your plan's fee. When guests must pay online, it says the fee is added to their price.
- When a guest pays by card, their summary shows a **Booking fee** line and a total with it. Guests who pay on the day never pay it.
- Stripe's card form, the payment page, the ticket and the ticket and payment link emails show the booking fee.
- TicketPa's fee stays the same amount, so you keep your full price. For example, on a 100.00 booking on **Standard**, the guest pays 101.00 and you get 100.00, before Stripe's fee.
- Your booking's **Paid**, your reports and the CSV export show your price. The booking shows the **Guest's booking fee** on its own, and its payments say "incl. 1.00 booking fee".
- Refunds give the booking fee back in proportion: all of it with a full refund, half of it with a 50% refund. TicketPa gives back its fee the same way.

Stripe's card fee isn't passed on. It stays yours.

## Stripe's fee

Stripe charges its own card fee on each online payment, from your Stripe account. Stripe sets this fee, not TicketPa, so check Stripe's pricing for your country.

## What is free

- Bookings paid on arrival.
- Payments your team records with **Take a payment**: cash, card on site and bank transfer. See [Take a payment in person](https://ticketpa.com/help/take-a-payment).
- Walk-ins paid on the spot.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does TicketPa keep its fee when I refund a guest?

No. When money goes back to the guest's card, TicketPa's fee on that part goes back too. When guests pay the booking fee, it goes back to them the same way.

### Do guests who pay on the day pay the booking fee?

No. The booking fee is only ever added to payments online.

### Is there a fee when I email a payment link?

Yes. A payment through a link is an online payment, so the same fee applies as on your booking page.
