# Close dates for holidays and days off

Close dates when you don't run, like a public holiday, maintenance or a team day off. Guests can't book anything in those dates, and you choose what happens to bookings already made. When only one person is away, add time off for them instead.

## Steps to close dates

1. Go to **Closed dates** in the sidebar, or select **Closed dates** at the top of the **Calendar**. Then select **Close dates**.
2. Under **What closes**, choose:
    - **Everything**: every activity.
    - **A location**: the activities that start at one location. Then choose the **Location**.
    - **An activity**: one activity. Then choose the **Activity**.
    - **One person**: time off for one staff member. Nothing closes. See [Set opening hours, staff hours and time off](https://ticketpa.com/help/opening-hours-and-time-off).
3. Pick the **First day** and the **Last day**.
4. Leave **All day** ticked, or untick it to close part of a day and set **From, on the first day** and **Until, on the last day**.
5. Add a **Reason** if you like. Only your team sees it.
6. Select **Close dates**.

Dates are read in each activity's own timezone. With **All day**, a time slot closes when it starts on one of the days. A part-day closure closes the time slots that overlap it.

Empty time slots from a schedule are removed. Booked time slots, and ones you added or changed by hand, close instead. A one-off time slot you add later on closed dates starts closed too, and opens when you reopen the dates.

## If guests have booked

When the dates hold booked time slots, the window shows how many bookings and guests they have and what those guests paid, online or in person, and asks **What happens to these bookings**:

- **Keep them: I'll contact the guests**: the time slots close and the bookings stay as they are. Guests aren't told.
- **Cancel them and refund**: the time slots and every booking on them are cancelled, online payments go back to the card and the guests are emailed. Money taken in person is yours to give back. You can add a **Note for the guests (optional)** for the email.

> **Note:** Bookings you keep stay confirmed, but guests don't get their reminder email for a date you closed. Contact them, or cancel the bookings later from the **Closed dates** page.

## Booked time slots on closed dates

While kept bookings remain, the **Closed dates** page shows **Booked time slots on closed dates**, with each time slot's bookings, guests and what there is to refund. For each one you can:

- Select **Guest list** to see who booked.
- Select **Cancel and refund** to cancel that time slot and its bookings. Choose whether to **Email the guests**, then select **Cancel time slot**. See [Cancel a time slot](https://ticketpa.com/help/cancel-a-time-slot).

To cancel them all at once, select **Cancel all and refund**, choose whether to **Email the guests**, and select **Cancel and refund all**. Cancelled time slots stay cancelled, and this can't be undone.

## Reopen dates

1. Select the trash icon next to the closed dates.
2. Select **Reopen dates**.

The schedule's time slots come back, and the ones these dates closed open again. A time slot cancelled while the dates were closed stays cancelled with its bookings, for your records, and the schedule adds a new open time slot at the same time. Time slots you closed yourself in the calendar stay closed. See [Edit a time slot](https://ticketpa.com/help/edit-a-time-slot).

The page lists only current and upcoming closed dates. Past ones drop off on their own.
